After characterizing Vice President Mike Pence's Christianity as a "mental illness" on nationwide television, ABC's The View panelist Joy Behar apologized to the Vice President privately, but Pence allegedly told Behar to apologize on the show to all the nation's Christians.

Last month Behar derided Pence for saying he communicates with Jesus through prayer.

Behar said: "It's one thing to talk to Jesus".

Tuesday at the opening of "The View" Behar apologized for her comments mocking the idea that the vice president heard the voice of Jesus during the February 13 episode. "That's called 'mental illness, ' if I'm not correct".

"That would make me mentally ill since I'm a Christian myself", she said when asked if she believes "Christians are mentally ill" the following day.

Pence reportedly told Behar she should apologize to Christians during a private phone call, but the vice president doubled down on Fox News and apparently "The View" co-host took notice. I was raised to respect everyone's religious faith. "She called me. She was very honest, and she apologized and one of the things my faith teaches me is grace; forgive as you've been forgiven". "She called me. She was very honest, and she apologized". "I don't think it was right", Iger also stated. I don't mean to offend people but apparently I keep doing it.

Pence added, "I felt it was important that I defend the faith of tens of millions of Americans against that kind of slander".

She later said she was joking, but Pence said the remarks were "wrong" and it was later revealed by Disney CEO Bob Iger that she telephoned Pence to express contrition for her comments.

MRC President Brent Bozell issued a statement declaring that Behar's private apology was "not almost enough" and promised to continue his campaign against "anti-Christian bigotry" at the network.

"She apologized to the vice president, he accepted and said he wasn't offended by her comment for his own sake but on behalf of the millions of evangelicals who watch ABC and her show", the source wrote in an email.
