Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is all set to launch its third smartphone (Redmi 5) for the year 2018 in the Indian market today. It has already been confirmed that the Redmi 5 will be available via Amazon India, while Mi.com and Mi Home availability at the time of launch are also likely.
Xiaomi has been teasing the upcoming device for quite some time using the hashtag #CompactPowerhouse on its social media channels. For those unaware, this is the same handset that the company launched in China past year in December in three storage variants - 2GB+16GB, 3GB + 32GB and 4GB+32GB. The Redmi 5 price in China is CNY 799 (roughly Rs. 8,200) for the 2GB RAM/ 16GB storage variant, CNY 899 (about Rs. 9,250) for the 3GB RAM/ 32GB storage model, and CNY 1,099 (approximately Rs. 11,300) for the 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage option. Although Xiaomi hasn't officially revealed which device is being launched Wednesday, the upcoming smartphone is in all likelihood the Redmi 5. There are also speculations about the same LIVE being streamed on YouTube and Xiaomi's official Facebook page as well. Many of their popular models like Xiaomi Redmi 4, Mi Mix 2, Redmi Note 3 are still stuck in older Android versions.
The Redmi 5a Prime boasts of a 16MP front camera, with 2.0 aperture in front, as well as a flash light, while the primary camera for both phones on the rear, packs a 13-megapixel camera. The phone sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (720x1440 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 282ppi pixel density. However, the storage can be extended with a MicroSD card. It is equipped with a dual-camera module at the back, which includes a combination of 12-megapixel + 5-megapixel sensors, supported by LED flash. The Redmi 5 runs on MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1 Nougat. The selfie camera also comes with company's own proprietary beautify 3.0 capabilities. In a surprise move, the smartphone manufacturer has chose to update all the phones including those that got released four years ago.
