RJD leads by just 455 votes in Araria; BJP leads in Bhabua

The voting for bypolls in the Phulpur and Gorakhpur Lok Sabha seats of Uttar Pradesh and that for Araria Lok Sabha seat, and Jehanabad and Bhabhua assembly constituencies in Bihar were held on March 11, 2018.

The voter turnout was 47.45 per cent in Gorakhpur and 37.39 per cent in Phulpur in Sunday's polling.

The lead status in both Bihar assembly constituency bypoll results remain the same with BJP leading in Bhabua with 40,501 votes and RJD leading in Jehanabad with 52,609 votes. The former ally of current ruling party JD (U) is leading by 23,187 with 3,33,050 votes with BJP trailing behind mananging 3,09,863 votes. On the other hand, RJD is leading in Jehanabad by 8,899 votes.

This is the first electoral battle in the Bihar since Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who also heads the JD (U), walked out of the alliance with the RJD and the Congress and joined the BJP-led NDA previous year. The results are expected to be declared by Thursday afternoon, according to an Election Commission official. In Bhabua Assembly seat, the saffron party is leading by almost 10,000 votes. Sarfaraz Alam has so far polled a total of 195,527 votes as against his BJP rival who has bagged 195,072 votes.

The bypolls will also test the leadership skills of RJD's Tejashwi Yadav, 28, who has led the opposition campaign as his father and party chief Lalu Prasad is in jail in a corruption case.

In Jehanabad, RJD's Suday Yadav, son of deceased MLA Mundrika Singh Yadav is ahead of his rival from JD (U) Abhiram Sharma, according to latest trends.

Fifty-seven percent votes were recorded in Araria while the voter turnout was 54.03 percent and 50.06 percent in Jehanabad and Bhabhua respectively.

Araria Agriculture Production Market Committee has been made the polling station for Araria Lok Sabha seat. There were 14 candidates in the Jehanabad assembly bye-election in the electoral fray.

Let us tell you that in this tired of the Arriya Lok Sabha by-election, there is a direct fight between BJP Pradip Singh and RJD's Sarfaraz Alam.
