Amazon marked the close of the deal by slashing the price of Ring's original video doorbell from £159 to £89, a move that it is expected to be the first of many across Ring's product line. As well as acquiring Ring, Amazon also purchased smart camera and also doorbell maker Blink in December past year and Amazon also has their own Cloud Camera available as well. Alternatively, you can use it on the video doorbell without a plan, though you won't be able to record video.

"Together with Amazon, we will accelerate our mission dramatically by connecting more neighbors globally and making our security devices and systems more affordable and accessible", said Ring CEO Jamie Siminoff.

The company also sells a second-generation version, called Video Doorbell 2, naturally, which offers a 1080P resolution.

The relationship between Amazon and Ring began in 2016 through the Alexa fund, Amazon's investment division focused on supporting companies that develop voice-related features.
