Apple may start iPhone 6S Plus production at a new factory in southern India to lower the model's price, local media outlet The Economic Times reported today. It has set up a new assembly for the production of iPhone 6s Plus.
Partner Wistron has already started trial production of the iPhone 6s Plus at its Bengalore plant, where it has been assembling the iPhone SE since past year. As per the report, Apple has already begun trial production of the iPhone 6S Plus at the Wistron facility in Bengaluru. It might soon be time for the iPhone 6S Plus to be similarly shielded from import tax fluctuations.
So even if Apple assembles iPhones in India, the customs duty on imported components will keep the expenses high, according to IBTimes. With increased local production, the prices will eventually get corrected, a source revealed to the publication. However, in the refurbished smartphone market, Apple is now the king, and India is one of those regions where such category of mobile phones are sold in massive volumes. This will also allow the iPhone to fall in the same price segment as a OnePlus phone or some Samsung phones.
