GVSU softball sweeps Davenport, extends winning streak to 17

In Thursday's showdown between undefeated North Bay League softball teams, host Rancho Cotate triumphed behind a four-run third inning that propelled the Cougars to a 7-4 win against Casa Grande.

The Cardinals are scheduled to face the Boyceville Bulldogs on the road on Tuesday, April 17.

Drexel started off the week with a game against Towson. DiMauro struck out three in seven innings. Lexie Wright hit a two-run double and like Layla Babb finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Drake and the Cougars were buoyed by the four-run third inning to erase a 1-0 deficit.

The Fairfield Lady Lions would complete the scoring with 3 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. She was driven home by Jeanine Turgeon's single to center, making it 4-1. In the top of the first, junior pitcher Ally Power got the leadoff hitter out before giving up a solo home run to put Bowling Green (21-19, 4-9 MAC) up 1-0. Nina Revoir went 2 for 3 with one run and one RBI, Ariyana Miranda went 2 for 2 with three runs and one RBI and Angelica Cano went 3 for 3 with three runs and three RBI to lead Elk Grove's offense. Kaitlyn Benson came home from third on an infield error and in the next at bat, Ball got home again on a fielder's choice. This lead to a three-run bomb by sophomore Linda Rush, which was another step to sealing their win. The Raiders needed at least two runs to keep the game going but went quietly going down in order.

After two weeks of miserable weather, the Greenwood softball team was thrilled to finally play a game.

Senior Taylor Weaver tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out five.

Drexel moved onto one of their Philadelphia rivals, UPenn.

Cosgrove singled to left feild and Bender and Nuckols each drew a walk to load the bases with nobody out before Gerdes singled on a fly ball to left field to send Cosgrove home.

Wagner and Hannah Lesher, a freshman, also doubled.

Riverside's Emily Lamos got the home run derby started in the first inning with a three-run home run that gave the Beavers a 3-0 lead. Minot State added another run in the third on Isis Cabral's single.

After South Newton scored six runs in the top of the second inning, PBL (2-6, 2-2 Sangamon Valley Conference) tallied two runs in the bottom of the second. The Hawks were able to improve their record to 22-8-1 so far this season.

The Dragons will welcome the University of North Carolina Wilmington, a fellow Colonial Athletic Association rival, for a doubleheader April 14.
