Seven prison inmates were killed and 17 injured in an hours-long series of events involving multiple fights between inmates at a prison in SC, the state Corrections Department said on Twitter.
Prisons spokesman Jeff Taillon said State Law Enforcement Division agents were required to help secure Lee Correctional Institution at 3am local time on Monday (8am in the UK). Another 17 inmates were injured at Lee Correctional Facility in Bishopville.
Taillon said multiple inmate fights broke out at 7:15 p.m. Sunday.
The South Carolina Department of Corrections tweeted that it involved multiple inmate-on-inmate altercations in three housing units.
