The body of Siddhant Thottapilly was found at about 4 p.m. submerged in the Eel River about 6 miles (9.6 kilometers) downstream from where the family vehicle reportedly crashed, Mendocino County Sheriff's Office Capt. Gregory L. Van Patten said in a statement.

Searchers have found the body of a 12-year-old boy in a Northern California river - the last of four family members who died when their vehicle plunged into a rain-swollen torrent.

The four members of the Thottapilly family went missing while traveling from Portland, Oregon, to their home in the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Clarita. The vehicle was encased in a large amount of sediment from the river current, and it took hours for the auto to be towed out of the water.

The boy's mother, Soumya Thottapilly, 38, was found on Friday some way from the crash site in an area previously covered with water from the storm-swollen river. Sheriff's officials confirmed that after the auto was out of the river, searchers were able to recover the bodies of Sandeep Thottapilly, 42, and Saachi Thottapilly, 9, from inside the vehicle. "Searchers subsequently recovered the bodies of Sandeep Thottapilly and Saachi Thottapilly from inside the vehicle", the Sheriff Office said adding that the autopsies are expected to be performed this week as part of the coroner's investigation into the incident.

Authorities have discovered the family's maroon Honda Pilot, which had veered off the 101 Freeway and plunged into the Eel River, near Leggett, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office announced Monday. Just before noon, searchers aboard a boat smelled gas coming from the water below, according to the statement.

They were reported missing on April 8 when they failed to show up for a visit at their relatives place in San Jose.

The authorities in Northern California have recovered and identified the bodies of three out of four members of a California family who disappeared while on a road trip earlier this month.
