The superstar SoCal rapper has won the Pulitzer Prize for music with his brilliant "DAMN." album. The album becomes the first piece of music that is not Classical or Jazz to take home the prestigious honor that started 101 years ago in the fields of literature, journalism, and music composition.

The Pulitzer board on Monday called the album a work that captures the complexity of African-American life.

Coachella was already going to be a pretty star-studded affair, with Beyonce, The Weeknd and Eminem headlining the festival.

Lamar is known for his piercing lyrics, political statements and his fired-up (sometimes literally) performances.

The Pulitzer prize is best known for recognising USA journalism, but it also gives awards for books, poetry and music.

The Times and The Washington Post took the national reporting award for their coverage of the investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential race and contacts between President Donald Trump's campaign and Russian officials.
