National Weather Service confirms tornado in Baxter County in Friday's storms

The National Weather Service confirms a tornado struck in northern Arkansas.

In North Carolina, the weather service office in Raleigh said Monday that a high-end EF-2 tornado hit Greensboro, carrying maximum winds of 135 miles per hour with a path that was at least 300 yards wide.

First responders were working to assist those in Craig County, Lynchburg and other localities impacted by possible tornado damage, according to Jeff Stern of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.

A North Carolina school system is canceling classes for a second day because of damages caused by a tornado.

In Jackson County, a tornado touched down in St. Martin, just south of Lemoyne Boulevard and tracked to the northeast ending near I-10 and MS Highway 609.

Sgt. James Cooper with the Hanover County Sheriff's Office said early Monday afternoon that one road in the western part of the county was closed due to high water.

Record low temperatures for the date were expected in Oklahoma City on Monday at 30 degrees F (-1 C), and in Kansas City, Missouri, at 25 F (-4 C), Hurley said.

Paul, Minnesota, the April monthly record for snowfall of 21.8 inches (55 cm) was surpassed on Saturday, the National Weather Service said.

Though it was on the ground for only about a minute, its 105-mph winds damaged six homes, flipped a truck and snapped dozens of trees.

The tornadoes largely occurred in rural or uninhabited places, lessening the damage. On top of the tornadoes we also had over 150 reports of large hail and thunderstorm wind damage as well.

It was issued until 7:15 p.m. Daylight revealed a wasteland of debris in Mountainburg, with trees uprooted, roofs ripped off, and a mobile home torn from its foundation. Utility poles were blown down. They have confirmed an EF-1 tornado and an EF-0 so far in East Texas.
