Officers have arrested the driver they say struck a 13-year-old boy while fleeing from police.

Columbia police arrested two people in connection with an attempted armed robbery in the 1400 block of Bass Avenue Saturday night.

Police Chief Bobby Corner said BPD received a call at 6:30 p.m. that the gas station had been robbed.

"McCray stated that he knew a robbery was going to happen and that his girlfriend, Savanna Shelton, drove him to the location", HPD wrote.

The clerk held the door to the cash register shut and defeated the suspect's efforts.

The officer stopped following the suspect because it was unsafe.

The suspect is now being interviewed by police.

Police say he raided the Bruce Road grocery store with a firearm around 8 o'clock, threatening staff and demanding money.

Investigators will release the name when the suspect is formally charged and transferred to the county jail.

Baker, 41, with no permanent address, should be considered "armed and unsafe", police spokesman Joel DeSpain said, urging anyone who sees him or the auto he allegedly stole to call 911, not Crime Stoppers.

The suspect is described as wearing blue jeans, dark shoes, black gloves, a black jacket with a hood, and a dark bandanna over most of his face.
