Shayrat air base was targeted by USA forces in 2017 after a suspected chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun that Washington blamed on the Syrian government.
Syrian state television reported early on Tuesday that missile strikes have targeted two new airfields in Syria, one near Homs and the other near the capital Damascus, while the US-led coalition denied carrying out those activities.
Syrian state television says the country's air defenses shot down missiles targeting its Shayrat airfield late on April 16.
The United States past year targeted the Shayrat airbase with cruise missiles in response to a sarin gas attack on the rebel-held town of Khan Sheikhun.
Most of the missiles were downed, a Syrian military official said.

A local reporter for The Arab News said Israeli warplanes were spotted in Syrian airspace just before the missiles were reported.
The Pentagon has declared there is "no United States military activity near Homs at this time".
