The press release reveals that more than ten new TV models from Insignia (Best Buy's own brand) and Toshiba will become available in the next few months. The retailer now has exclusive access to Fire TV Edition TVs, both at its stores and as a newly-minted Amazon third-party reseller.
Neither company is providing any additional details on model specifics of pricing, but we do know that the first Fire TV Edition smart TVs will be available this summer in the United States.
So, part of me understands why Best Buy would want to consider stepping onto the dance floor with Amazon. Still, this is the first time Best Buy will embed Amazon's software in its own Insignia products, and the first time it will sell products as a merchant on Amazon. It's not that people hated the dovetailing of their streaming video player and their traditional "dumb" TV - far from it, I'm sure - it's just that reviewers and buyers alike didn't particularly love the panels Amazon's smart OS made its way onto.
Amazon and Best Buy want to sell you your next smart TV. It has since added other Amazon devices to its lineup including Fire tablets and TV sticks for streaming content.
