The service was initially available in only four markets - Austin, Cincinnati, Dallas and Virginia Beach. Instead of making use of smart locks or cloud connected camera to get entry, the conoaco wants to make use of the connected technology which is present in the modern day vehicles. A connected auto service plan will enable Amazon Key to connect with your vehicle for in-car deliveries. Key In-Car, by contrast, only requires downloading the Amazon Key app.

On Tuesday, the online retail giant launched the scheme in 37 USA cities - and Amazon Prime members who own newer General Motors or Volvo vehicles are eligible. If you do not now have an active connected service plan, just push the blue OnStar button inside your vehicle to activate service. Support for even more vehicle makes and models will be added over time, according to a release. Orders can be placed via Amazon's Prime Now app or online at primenow.com.

Amazon Prime customers need to download the Amazon Key app. You'll need a 2015 or newer vehicle with OnStar or Volvo On Call.

GM reports that the feature is available in at least a 2015 model or newer Chevy, Buick, GMC or Cadillac with both a Prime and OnStar membership. Visit the Volvo On Call website to learn more. "And, with no additional hardware or devices required, customers can start ordering in-car delivery today", Larsen added.

Amazon announced today that it has formed a partnership with General Motors and Volvo to offer deliveries inside your auto, which, according to The Wall Street Journal, will give the retail giant access to "potentially millions of vehicles" across 37 USA markets. As you might have guessed, Key In-car delivery service works the similar way.

As before, Prime Now shoppers can place their Whole Foods orders for delivery between 8 AM and 10 PM. At checkout, a new option appeared for "in-car delivery". The courier is able to deliver your package in your auto while you are out there doing something else. Once setup is complete, your vehicle should show up in the list of available delivery options.

To use the service Amazon Prime members need to select the "in-car" delivery option after purchasing a product. After that, a delivery location area is registered, which could be your driveway or a work parking lot, for example.

The app tells customers their delivery slot, when the package is on its way and when it has been delivered - and also offers a record of when their auto was unlocked and relocked.

Amazon Key will now deliver packages into a customer's vehicle at no extra charge, saving them time and money.
