Comics Plus of Macon preparing for Free Comic Day this weekend

On Saturday, several local comic books stores will be participating in Free Comic Book Day.

This year marks the seventeenth anniversary of the comic book event. Marvel Comics Executive Editor Tom Brevoort says, "Marvel's two Free Comic Book Day releases feature the inaugural installments of our new AVENGERS, CAPTAIN AMERICA, and AMAZING SPIDER-MAN series, by our very finest talent!" Much like Record Store Day is to music fans, the celebration's goal is to generate excitement for comic book fans and give the uninitiated a chance to discover the hobby for the first time.

To add to the festivities, the Vault of Midnight stores will be hosting cosplay contests throughout the day.

If anyone feels like cosplaying for the day please feel free, as a few actual superheroes bounding around would be sure to make the event even more fun and exciting for the kids. Shops have different policies on how many free comics you can receive, but you will receive at least one free comic if you enter a participating shop location. Carol & John's Comic Shop 17462 Lorain Ave, 216-252-0606 At this place the pre-party starts Friday night at 10 p.m. for all ages, with a comic book giveaway at 2 a.m.
