Buffett, chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, made the remarks in response to a Chinese investor's question about US-China trade relations at the Berkshire Hathaway's annual shareholders meeting.

"If something happened a week later, a month later, in terms of [Microsoft] having better earnings than expected or making an acquisition-anything-both Bill and I would, incorrectly, but would be a target of suggestions and accusations, perhaps even, that somehow he had told me something, or vice versa", Buffett said at the Berkshire meeting in Omaha. Buffett said he still spends most of his time reading about businesses, thinking and fielding the occasional phone call.

"I used to think so", Mr Buffett joked, prompting laughter and applause.

"In terms of cryptocurrencies, generally, I can say with nearly certainty that they will come to a bad ending", the chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway said then. Its insurance and utility businesses typically account for more than half of the company's net income.

Now, Microsoft is just one of "a few [companies] that are off the list" of what Berkshire Hathaway is willing to invest in because of ethical conflicts, Buffett said.
