Melania Trump hospitalised after kidney surgery

The White House did not offer any additional details on Mrs. Trump's condition.

Communications director Stephanie Grisham tells NPR the first lady is "is doing well".

Embolizations are often conducted to treat cancerous tumors, but Grisham said the 48-year-old first lady's kidney condition was "benign". "That's because she is the first lady", said Dr. Jeffrey Cadeddu, a professor of urology and radiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas.

Dr. Joseph A. Vassalotti, the chief medical officer at the National Kidney Foundation, said his guess was that Mrs. Trump had either a benign tumor known as an angiomyolipoma or a bleeding cyst. "The first lady looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere", she continued.

According to Elizabeth Kavaler, a urologist at Lenox Hill Hospital in NY, the first lady may have a common, benign tumor of the kidney called an angiomyolipoma, or AML.

The president had no public appearances scheduled for Monday and declined to answer shouted questions from reporters about how his wife was feeling as he departed the White House for Walter Reed. Successful procedure, she is in good spirits.

The president tweeted shortly before arriving at Walter Reed outside Washington, saying it was a "successful procedure, " describing his wife as being "in good spirits" and offering his thanks "to all of the well-wishers!"

He went on to explain that the procedure is usually low risk, though he understood why the doctors want Trump to stay in the hospital for the remainder of the week. As Health Point state, kidney embolisation is used to control bleeding from the kidney caused by trauma (injury), tumours and other conditions.

Mrs. Trump has, at times, has been noticeably absent from her husband's side.

Melania's not the only first lady to undergo surgery, but a hospitalization this long hasn't occurred for a first lady since Nancy Reagan back in 1987.

The Internet has gone wild with speculation that Melania Trump is miserable in her role as First Lady.

The White House says Melania Trump will probably be hospitalized for the rest of the week.

Last week, the first lady launched her "Be Best" initiative to help children be their best selves.
