Family of victim releases statement after Noblesville shooting

Someone opened fire at a suburban Indianapolis middle school Friday morning, injuring an adult and a child before the suspect was taken into custody, authorities said.

"Thanks to very fearless Teacher & Hero Jason Seaman of Noblesville, Indiana, for his heroic act in saving so many precious young lives", President Trump wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

Seventh-grade science teacher Jason Seaman is being praised for what many are calling selfless actions and quick thinking.

Vice President Mike Pence, who was governor of IN before becoming vice president, offered his thoughts and prayers to Noblesville West Middle School.

Along with Whistler's family, Seaman also thanked all of the first responders and the support he's received from his students.

"Today an unfortunate shooting at a school has occurred in Indiana".

The last day of school at Noblesville West Middle School, which has about 1,300 students, is June 1, WTHR reported. The person in police custody is a male student now enrolled at the middle school. She said her son was shot once through the abdomen, once in the hip and once in the forearm. He underwent surgery for three gunshot wounds, his mother, Kristi Seaman, wrote in a Facebook post.

Ethan said he never thought a school shooting "would somehow get that close to you". "Jason Seaman selflessly put himself in harm's way to protect his students and it is because of his heroic actions more students were not hurt", Brooks said.

Witnesses said Seaman threw a basketball at the suspected shooter and then tackled him, according to The Associated Press.

"Our hearts go out to the students, educators, families and community members of Noblesville who this morning faced a senseless act of gun violence at Noblesville West Middle School". "He's not really ever been the person to run away", Jeremy Seaman said. An unnamed student said that Seaman tackled the shooter.

SIU football coach Nick Hill, a quarterback that played his senior year with Seaman, remembered him as a dedicated player. As CNN reports, there are conflicting reports about how many people were injured in the shooting. "I went into this little room in the back with three other people", he said.

"It was a gut feeling and as soon as we got the code yellow, I knew that that was what's going on", the student, who was not named, told The Indy Star. While there are no fatalities due to the shooting, Mahomet-Seymour High School alumnus Jason Seaman (class of 2007) was among the shooting victims.

"What do you think about the sacrifice Mr. Seaman made?"

"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this awful situation".
