Kim Kardashian West arrives at White House for prison reform talk

The reality TV star and businesswoman paid a visit to the White House to press Trump to grant clemency for Alice Marie Johnson, a great-grandmother doing prison time, whom Kardashian has personally sought to spotlight.

Kardashian West's White House visit was earlier reported by Vanity Fair.

Kardashian West is thought to have been involved in private discussions with Mr Kushner and his wife Ivanka Trump for several months.

"Great meeting with [Kim Kardashian] today, talked about prison reform and sentencing", Trump announced on Twitter.

There was even a suggestion that Trump had agreed to the meeting with Kardashian West to distract the public from his failure to secure a meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

She reached out to her longtime personal lawyer, Shawn Holley, to ask him to look at the case and is paying for a new legal team for Johnson.

In a statement, Kim Kardashian thanked Trump. The 62-year-old great-grandmother is now serving a life sentence in Alabama for money laundering and drug conspiracy related to her involvement in a cocaine ring. The grandmother was given a mandatory life sentence plus 25 years in 1997 for her part in a cocaine distribution ring, her first offense.

"I would explain to [Trump] that, just like everybody else, we can make choices in our lives that we're not proud of and that we don't think through all the way", Kardashian West shared.

Hostin added that prison reform is something that desperately needs attention and if Kim is the one who's able to bring it up to Trump, "good".

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian really pulled through to the White House.

President Donald Trump has already granted three pardons in his first two years in office.

Kardashian West has said she has no doubt that Alice Johnson will lead a productive life outside of prison if granted clemency by Trump.

Kardashian West was spotted leaving the White House with a small entourage about an hour after she arrived.

At the beginning of the month, Kanye West tweeted a picture of himself with a red "Make America Great Again" hat, which was a decision widely condemned by almost everyone in the media and the entertainment industry.

"This is so much bigger than either of us", Johnson wrote in the letter, which also referenced civil rights icon Rosa Parks.
