No word yet on if the game plays like the classic Tetris games, but judging by the visuals and audio from the trailer (above), it looks as if this latest entry in the long-running series has been heavily infused with some Lumines and Rez vibes. The concept and premise for this version, however, is actually kind of neat. Per the game's official description, it's more or less Tetris as you know it - the insane imagery is mostly just there to enhance immersion and elicit emotions. "Well a big hint is in the name itself; if you Google "Tetris Effect research" you'll discover it's not just our game title but also a well-known phenomenon proven by many academic studies".
Tetris Effect will be playable at E3 this year, with the possibility of a demo coming later in the year. Tetris Effect features bright neon graphics, hypnotic music, and virtual reality support with PSVR.
Celebrating the 34th anniversary of the iconic Tetris brand, Enhance Inc. and The Tetris Company, LLC, Tetris Effect aims to amplify the feeling of total immersion by surrounding players with fully three-dimensional worlds that react and evolve based on how they play. "Music, backgrounds, sounds, special effects-everything, down to the Tetris pieces themselves, pulse, dance, shimmer, and explode in ideal sync with how you're playing".

Tetris is looking a bit different these days.
The game at its heart is still Tetris and it'll include several fan-favorite modes like Sprint, Marathon and Ultra as well as new variants like Zone which allows players to freeze time to either maneuver out of a potentially game-ending scenario or clear extra lines for bonus rewards. One of these new features was announced today, however.
I'm going to old-man myself here, but back in my day, we didn't have this sort of "get out of trouble" free ability; we had to rely on speed, reflexes and on-the-fly wit.
