Want to know who will win the first match of the World Cup? "Thank you for entrusting us with the privilege of hosting the World Cup in 2026".

The United bid won by a 134-65 margin, with one vote for "neither" host.

Óscar Tabarez has led the South Americans at the 1990, 2010 and 2014 tournaments, and when Uruguay's game kicks off in Yekaterinburg it'll be his fourth World Cup in charge - meaning he will have the Most FIFA World Cup appearances with the same national team by a coach.

Under the North America proposal, 60 of the tournament's matches will be held in the USA, including everything from the quarterfinals onwards, while Mexico and Canada will host 10 games each.

"I think this would be acceptable to Fifa because the World Cup is about taking football to the people", the Confederation of African Football Executive Committee member told BBC Sport.

Some of these people are household names, others less so, but they're all in with a shout of leaving Russian Federation as a Guinness World Records title holder.

Mexico will host only 10 matches of the 80 to be played in the expanded tournament with matches played at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City and lovely, modern facilities in Monterrey's Estadio BBVA Bancomer and Chivas de Guadalajara's Estadio Akron.

Frustration has overwhelmed Morocco after the North African kingdom lost its fifth World Cup bid.

"Technically speaking, it's understandable that the U.S. bid capacity surpasses Morocco's", said Omar Chrayabi, a Moroccan sports journalist.

One of those cast in favour of the new hosts was South Africa although it was far less of a surprise with a statement by sports minister, Tokozile Xasa‚ who confirmed South Africa would not support Morocco, presumably as part of wider political decision taken by government with the two country's having somewhat strained relations.

The North America bid also had to overcome concerns about the impact of policies from the Trump administration, including attempts to implement a ban on travel by residents of six majority-Muslim countries.

However, the North American bid also faced issues in the run-up to the voting.
