Jordan insists he didn't know about alleged OSU sex abuse

Ohio lawmaker accused of ignoring abuse of Ohio State student-athletes

Rep. Jim Jordan denies allegations he ignored sexual abuse of Ohio State wrestlers

NBC reported on Tuesday that three former OSU wrestlers described the alleged abuse by Strauss as common knowledge and that he assaulted as many as 2,000 student athletes from 1978-98.

Jordan has repeatedly denied the allegations this week.

Rep Jordan's spokesman said Thursday the Republican is working with investigators to set up a meeting. "It boggles my mind that he would take the position that he's taken". He said that while he was too ashamed to report his experience directly to Jordan, he partook in multiple conversations with Jordan and his teammates during which Strauss' conduct was discussed.

This came as a fourth former Ohio State University wrestler, Shawn Dailey, came forward and said he'd been abused.

Doug Andres, a spokesman for Speaker Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin, said: "These are serious allegations and issues".

Mr. Jordan is one of the most prominent conservatives in Congress.

Beginning in 2007, Yetts served 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to federal mail fraud charges. Though the Times sees that outcome as "unlikely", it believes he'll exert influence over the selection. "I believe him 100 percent".

The glitch appears to clear up seemingly contradictory statements by Jordan's office and Porter Wright, the law firm leading Ohio State's investigation into Dr. Richard Strauss.

DiSabato said he had forwarded Jordan a screenshot of a message he saw from former Ohio State football player Matt Finkes - whom he identified as Jordan's cousin. He said that Mr. Jordan asked him not to get him involved. He said he hadn't personally talked to DiSabato since late March or April.

Dunyasha Yetts, the captain of the wrestling team for the 1993-1994 season, who was named in the NBC story, also implicated the congressman.

A source in Jordan's office, who described the emails as " freaky, seemingly unhinged", told ABC News the lawmaker received the emails on his personal account and they were turned over by his staff to Capitol Police for their expert assessment.

Jordan has said he only learned about the abuse allegations this spring, when former students began speaking out.

Jordan's office claimed on Thursday that he was being "bullied" by one of the wrestlers who had contacted him: 'Rep. "I don't know how he could have forgotten because this was traumatic for all the athletes".

A partner with Porter Wright Morris & Arthur said the investigative team had in fact contacted Jordan about an interview by email and phone.

However, the law firm representing Ohio State contradicted that statement in a statement of its own, so it's not clear that Jordan is being entirely forthcoming about anything at this point.
