Erik Jones won the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway in a second overtime attempt, claiming his first Cup Series win. "What an awesome day, man". My first Cup win. "There's not much better than this one". It also saw the first career victories of one of NASCAR's new and young faces of the sport.
Joe Gibbs Racing's Erik Jones drove through one of the most wreck-filled NASCAR races in recent years Saturday night and led only the final lap in winning at the series most famous track.
Truex had posted only one other top-five finish - a second in the 2016 Daytona 500 - in 26 previous starts at the 2.5-mile superspeedway. Jones was involved in one of the many wrecks, but his No. 20 Toyota was still in good enough shape to get by Martin Truex Jr.
Maybe these so-called "Young Guns" do know how to find victory lane.
Truex lapped the 2.5-mile tri-oval in 47.069 seconds at 191.209 miles per hour. AJ Allmendinger finished third, followed by Kasey Kahne and Chris Buescher.
Shortly before that wreck on the initial would-be final lap, Kahne and Kevin Harvick were side-by-side with six laps to go when another wreck caused a significant delay with cars spread around the infield. "It seemed like he was being really aggressive, and that's the second time we've kind of been on the wrong end of something with him". "He got to my right rear quarter - just barely - enough to slow me down off of 2, and then the race was on from there".
Only nine races remain in the regular season.
Semi-final loss will hurt for a while, admits England captain Kane
What he's achieved has been awesome . 'We worked as hard as we could.it hurts, it hurts a lot and it will hurt for a long time. We respect them, of course, and I think they respect us. "He's just been fantastic , his confidence has grown".
England's semi-final nightmare continues with Croatia defeat
Croatia had already gone into extra time in the round of 16 and the quarterfinals, prevailing on penalty kicks on both occasions. England had got off to a flying start when Trippier curled a superb free kick into the top corner in the opening minutes.
Gareth Southgate’s waistcoat set for a place in history
But while Harry is less confident about England's chances, his brother Prince William appears to be more optimistic. Southgate's side have been buoyed by more than just an anthemic pop song, though.
STENHOUSE, AGAIN: Ricky Stenhouse Jr., the focus of much of the evening's caution activity, caused the eighth caution with 11 laps to go when damage on his auto caused a tire rub and eventually a tire failure.
Added Logano: "When one auto sits sideways in front of the field at 200 miles per hour, you can't get through it".
Jimmie Johnson led for a season-high 10 laps, but was pretty much out of contention when with less than 40 laps to go he was assessed a one-lap penalty for a pit-road violation.
Kyle Larson, who won the Xfinity Series race Friday night, was out in a crash with Stenhouse.
"He got hit from behind, so I didn't get hit anywhere", Byron said.
Chase Elliott won the pole.
Elliott was on the pole on the front with Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman. Stenhouse bumped Kyle Busch and sent the No. 18 Toyota into the wall. Eight laps later, Byron and Kyle Busch were involved and the caution resulted in Byron losing his spot.
Chase Elliott turned a lap of 194.045 miles per hour to win the pole at Daytona International Speedway and give sagging Chevrolet a much-needed boost.
