Israel fires missile at drone that entered from Syria

A Patriot missile shot down the drone, after it set off air-defence sirens on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and the Jordanian border, Reuters reported.

The incident took place as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Moscow to stress to Russian President Vladimir Putin that Israel will not tolerate an Iranian military presence in Syria.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.

The group of more than 40 mothers and children that crossed over in the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday were among the 3,000 Syrians who Israel says have received separate treatment in what it calls "Operation Doctor's Appointment".

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have delivered strikes on three military targets in Syria in response to the infiltration of a Syrian drone into the Israeli territory, the IDF spokesperson twitted on Thursday. It had also flown over Jordan, he said. "The IDF will not allow any violation of Israeli airspace and will act against any attempt to hurt its civilians".

The Israeli military said on Wednesday that it had shot down a drone from Syria that had entered its airspace.

In their Moscow meeting Netanyahu and Putin were to discuss Syria.

Russia, another top key ally of Assad, has warned it would be unrealistic to expect Iran to fully withdraw from the country.

Russian Federation also has maintained warm ties with Israel and demonstrated a readiness to take its security interests into account.

"We will discuss Syria, we will discuss Iran, we will discuss Israel's security needs", Netanyahu told reporters before departing to Moscow.

He said the incursion threatened "the safety and security of Israel's northern cities and towns" and added that Israel has "repeatedly warned the Security Council of the destabilizing activities taking place in Syria and the threats they pose to Israel and the Middle East".
