For Liverpool fans the Premier League crown remains their most sought-after trophy but under the stewardship of Jurgen Klopp there is a real sense that the club can finally add the elusive piece of silverware to their trophy cabinet.

With a place in the final secured after a 2017-18 season in which Liverpool reached the Champions League final despite criticisms of their defensive weaknesses, Lovren feels a point had been proven about his quality as a player.

- Who has the edge in the World Cup final? "It's well deserved, I'm really happy for him".

Lovren joined Liverpool from Southampton in 2014 and played 43 games in all competitions last season.

"Now we have the chance to do something even better and hopefully we can do it".

His disappointment for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson and fans of the country he calls home at the moment sat alongside satisfaction in seeing Lovren reach the pinnacle of the global game.

Monaco keeper Subasic is understood to have missed training as a precaution, so as not to aggravate his problematic hamstring, while Lovren's unspecified injury is not thought to be serious enough to keep him out of the semi-final. I think definitely if you are in the final you are the two best teams in the world.

They had previously defeated Denmark and hosts Russian Federation on penalties, becoming the first team ever to advance to the final by winning three consecutive extra time games. Now there is only one game left to make it forever.

"I can imagine everybody is disappointed but it was still a fantastic tournament with one game to come". With a very young team they did a brilliant job. It's impressive what they are doing. It's good to see.
