Colin Kaepernick's Name Cut From Big Sean Verse On 'Madden NFL 19'

Kaepernick became a lightning rod for controversy when, as quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, he began kneeling during the U.S. national anthem before NFL games to draw attention to racial inequality and police brutality. That, in turn, caused protests from those who felt Kaepernick's gesture was disrespectful.

EA issued a statement that read: "We made an unfortunate mistake with our Madden NFL soundtrack".

The video game features the song "Big Bank" by rappers YG, 2 Chainz, Big Sean, and Nicki Minaj. For The Win confirmed that Kaepernick's name was removed from the game's version of the song.

The cut was first noticed by jeanclervil on Twitter.

The original lyric, sung by Big Sean, is "You boys all cap, I'm more Colin Kaepernick", but as you can hear above, after "I'm more" there's nothing else.

EA has yet to comment on the issue, so it's unclear why exactly this decision was made. EA Sports revealed the Madden 19 soundtrack on July 25.

Colin Kaepernick remains without an National Football League team, and now it appears he'll be without a mention in the latest Madden 19 video game.

Kaepernick's girlfriend, Nessa Diab, retweeted a clip of the game's purported version of Big Bank by YG.

Over the past year, various hip-hop stars have dished on their respect for Kaepernick amid his publicized pro-Black Lives Matter national anthem protests. "Nobody from my team approved any of this", Big Sean tweeted.

"We will make it right, with an update to Madde NFL 19 on August 6 that will include the reference again".

"We messed up, and the edit should never have happened", EA Sports said. In a verse by artist Big Sean, Colin Kaepernick is mentioned, but in Madden NFL 2019 that particular lyric is censored. More players began to partake in the protests as well, and even the President gave his input. With Madden 19, it takes things a bit further by editing out a simple name drop of a politically polarizing figure.
