Coinbase Announces Ethereum Classic Support Is in Final Testing Phase

Much anticipated final testing is being made to support Ethereum Classic (ETC) on Coinbase.

"...because Coinbase just announced that they are likely to have trading [of ETC] added to their platform on August 7th or later".

Coinbase went on to reveal that the dates given are not final, and are only estimates. The company believes this phase will be completed by Tuesday, August 7. After it's confirmed, Coinbase Prime and Coinbase Pro trading platforms will start accepting ETC-deposits.

According to the announcement, support for ethereum classic will be implemented incrementally across the various Coinbase services namely Coinbase Custody, Coinbase Markets, Coinbase Pro, Coinbase Prime, Coinbase Asset Management and Coinbase Consumer.

The authorities of the exchange have also announced that the users who did not withdraw their ETH after the Ethereum's hard fork in 2016, will receive the corresponding number of ETC coins.

The cryptocurrency market has been facing difficulties over the past 72 hours with the coin prices crashing after a week of bullish rise. The coin continued its upwards movement during the weekend, climbing above $17.

According to a blog post published on Friday, Coinbase Custody is also looking to add various existing and upcoming crypto assets for storage purposes, though not for trading at this time. Last month, the exchange revealed it is considering adding Cardano (ADA), Basic Attention Token (BAT), Stellar Lumens (XLM), Zcash (ZEC) and 0x (ZRX).

The list of assets being explored include XRP, Monero, Bitcoin Gold, Telegram and a lot more besides. "At this time, we have not yet considered these assets for trading".
