Ontario Premier Doug Ford is expected to formally announce the provincial government's buck-a-beer plan at a Brewery in Picton, Ontario today.
Beer fans across Ontario can officially start counting down the days until the return of "Buck-a-Beer", the popular $1-per-beer price floor that delighted people across Ontario until it was cancelled when the previous government abruptly introduced new beer price regulations. It will go into effect on Monday August 27, 2018. He also indicated there are no tax incentives involved and tax payers' money will not be used. Ford campaigned on the idea of lowering beer prices with the catchy slogan.
It is unknown if any additional Ontario craft breweries will participate.
"This included a promise to bring "Buck-a-Beer" back to Ontario".
The government is offering incentives like prime shelf real estate, free LCBO advertising and other perks to encourage brewers to lower their prices to $1 in time for Labour Day.
"These product placements or advertisements. have monetary value", she said.
Beers being sold for $1 will still be subject to a 5-cent deposit and tax.
