Called the T-Mobile Essentials plan, it offers only the basics, without numerous extras that T-Mobile has become known for.
Early on Monday morning, T-Mobile launched its new Essentials plan, a mildly stripped-back version of its flagship "unlimited" plan, T-Mobile One. Video streaming on the new plan is limited to 480p quality, and during times of network congestion, T-Mobile Essentials customers may encounter slower speeds. Subscribers will get unlimited talk, text, and data in the United States for $30 per line for a family of four with autopay. By comparison, T-Mobile ONE is $40 per line per month, but comes with additional features. Also, despite being advertized as an unlimited plan, throttling still hits after you pass over 50GB of used data in a month. The plan is similar to pared-back "unlimited" plans that have recently been debuted by Verizon and AT&T: You get mostly-unlimited mobile data, talk, and texts for less than the flagship plan, but lose additional extras like high-speed hotspot data and global roaming. On the one plan, customers benefit from LTE speeds when roaming, a Netflix subscription and an allowance for in-flight data. And T-Mobile ONE Plus International is $65 per line per month; yes, it adds yet more still. That means lots of new people in new parts of the country, many of whom just want the freedom to use their smartphone without worrying about overage penalties.

Although it comes with unlimited services, the Essentials plan is stripped down compared to numerous other plans you'd find at T-Mobile and other carriers. Credit approval, deposit, and $25 SIM starter kit may be required. Well have to wait until T-Mobile releases its terms and conditions for the new plan to see exactly which of the T-Mobile perks it will or will not include. In T-Mobile's home state of Washington, the combined federal, state, and local rate is 25.6%, which is enough to bring a single line of T-Mobile Essentials to $75. The Un-carrier wants to make it easy.
There will be some extras available for the T-Mobile Essentials plan for customers who need them. Also worth noting is the fact that T-Mobile says this is in addition to taxes and fees, extras that are normally included in the overall rate (remember the whole advertising campaign about this?).
