De Jong has told the Ajax management that he wanted to stay at the club this season.

Marc Overmars is certain that Barcelona did not offer Ajax enough money to sign Frenkie De Jong this summer.

Barcelona remain hopeful of landing their man with technical secretary Eric Abidal having held regular conversations with the player's representatives over the past few months.

Reports have further added that Barcelona offered the Eredivisie giants somewhere around 25 to 30 million for their star but was rejected.

De Jong's stock has continued to rise in the Netherlands, and he has won two caps for his country, and is closing in on a half-century of appearances for the capital club.

De Jong, who made his senior worldwide debut for Holland earlier this month, played the full 90 minutes as they lost to France in the UEFA Nations League on Sunday evening.
