Health Department Confirms Two Cases Of West Nile Virus In Bergen County

The state of MI has now documented 21 residents officially diagnose with West Nile virus as of Friday. It's the second known case in the state of Maryland for 2018.

"Controlling an epidemic of WNV infection is a community effort that calls upon residents to take preventative measures to reduce exposure", said Ganesh Shivaramaiyer, DCHHS interim director.

A horse from Hampshire County and a llama from Worcester County also recently tested positive for West Nile.

Officials confirmed one positive human case in Carrollton last week, Denton County's first this year, Denton County Public Health spokeswoman Jennifer Rainey said. "The virus has been confirmed in 11 different traps by those 23 separate pools, but it is possible that the virus could be more widespread at this point". Seventeen cases have been reported across the state.
