Kulsoom Sharif to be laid to rest in Lahore today

A Pakistan International Airlines' flight carrying the body landed at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore at around 6:45 am (local time) today.

Hussain Nawaz, eldest son of incarcerated former president Nawaz Sharif broke down in grief on Wednesday night in London when his uncle, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif arrived to attend his sister-in-law Begum Kulsoom Nawaz's funeral prayers and take the body home. Her body was brought back to the country from London, where she was being treated for throat cancer, this morning and kept at the Sharif residence, Jati Umra.

The former three-time premier, who was accompanied by Sharif family members to pay respects to Begum Kulsoom at Sharif Medical City after her body was brought to Lahore, is now meeting guests in Jati Umra.

Legal formalities have been completed and the family has received a death certificate issued by the Harley Street Clinic, where Begum Kulsoom died on Tuesday.

The funeral prayers in London were attended by her sons Hassan and Hussain, brother-in-law Shehbaz Sharif, former ministers Chaudhry Nisar and Ishaq Dar among others.

Condolences continued to pour in for the Sharif family, upon Kulsoom Nawaz's demise.

The parole of Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam, and son-in-law Capt (retd) Mohammad Safdar was extended by three days on Wednesday to allow them to attend the funeral of Begum Kulsoom Nawaz, according to a media report.

After Kulsoom Nawaz's body is brought to Pakistan, her funeral prayers will be held on Friday in Raiwind.

A Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's female delegation will attend the funeral prayers for the former first lady.

A provincial Home Department spokesperson later said that the parole of the trio was extended by three days.

Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Capt (retd) Muhammad Safdar, now serving jail terms in the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi after being convicted by an accountability court in a corruption case in July, were initially granted a 12-hour parole to attend the funeral.
