Microsoft Adds AI, Mixed Reality Applications to Dynamics 365 Portfolio

Dynamics 365 gives businesses boost with push for new AI and mixed reality apps

Microsoft adds two more Dynamics 365 AI apps to its roadmap

Microsoft has launched a set of AI applications for customers of its Dynamics cloud customer relationship management (CRM) software in a bid to better compete with the market leader Salesforce.

Microsoft confirmed the coming availability of a new Dynamics 365 AI offering, which it grandly said is a "new class of AI applications that will deliver out-of-the-box insights by unifying data and infusing it with advanced intelligence to guide decisions and empower organisations to take informed actions". But rather than requiring complex custom development, these new capabilities are designed for point-and-click setup and deployment by business users, or for easy customization and extension by developers. "If you can democratize the use of AI tools, every company can harness the power of AI".

AI for Customer Service, which also will be available in preview this fall, uses Microsoft AI and natural-language understanding technologies to help workers understand where and how to take action based on automatically generated insights. Microsoft Dynamics 365 AI-powered bots can be trained by call center managers, asserted Navrina Singh, Microsoft AI principal product lead, during a demo.

The market insights app will help marketers inprove customer relationships with actionable web and social insights to engage in relevant conversations and respond faster to trends.

The Mixed Reality announcements bring HoloLens - Microsoft's virtual reality headset - into the industrial environment, where it will have a role in field service, inspection and site surveys.

The Remote Assist will allow remote users to have video calls using HoloLens and help the front-line workers.

Chevron's adoption of HoloLens in production wasn't a direct effect of its wider-ranging cloud partnership with Microsoft, the company says, but did help accelerate adoption through the sharing of engineering expertise and Chevron's familiarity with Azure and Dynamics 365, both of which are used by HoloLens' apps.

The MR business apps will be part of the October release of "Dynamics 365". These new offers execute on Microsoft's vision of redefining how the world thinks about business applications. Microsoft has since extended this Common Data Service to also bring in data from Office, LinkedIn, and third-party applications.
