Gaza: Hamas calls for new demonstrations today

The Friday March of Return protests on the Gaza borders with Israel was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Saturday.

Soldiers fired live bullets and rubber-coated steel shells at demonstrators, who gathered in many camps along the dividing line, and several were choked by tear gas.

On Wednesday, September 19, 2018, the soldiers killed a Palestinian child, identified as Mo'men Ibrahim Abu Eyada, 15, after shooting him in the head while he was participating in a non-violent protest east of Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

According to the Israeli channel, the Qatari proposal revealed that Hamas agreed to stop the violence in exchange for a plan to improve the infrastructure, electricity and sanitation in Gaza, as well as the establishment of commercial infrastructure through a port or airport in Gaza.

"We will carry on with the marches of return until we achieve the goals of lifting the siege", Sinwar told Palestinian protesters in eastern Gaza city as he joined the weekly march.

Al-Ayyam said Abbas and French President Emmanuel Macron held talks and that Europe is working to compensate the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) for the money cut by the United States, which amounts to $365 million annually. Two of the wounded were said to be in serious condition.

The demonstrators demand Israel to end the almost 12 years of blockade imposed on the Gaza Strip since Hamas movement violently seized control of the enclave in 2007.
