Google Has A Smart Display Now And It's Called Home Hub

"We have taken the world's best smartphone camera and made it even better", said Google's hardware chief Rick Osterloh during the launch event at Spring Studios, echoing a shot across the bow at Cupertino, Calif. -based Apple, which recently launched its new iPhones, the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max and the upcoming iPhone Xr. Called Google Home Hub, it's a smart display with built-in Google Assistant. The display is backed by a "crystal clear speaker" and the attractive design with fabric base and rounded corner display is available in Chalk, Charcoal, Aqua and Sand finishes. One of the more interesting products to be revealed was the Google Home Hub. The page notes that Google Home now allows users to "play at 2x speed", "play slower/faster", or "play at half the speed".

Google uses the screen to show you more information about the weather, about local restaurants, and so on.

Ostensibly a smart display, Home Hub lacks something found on Facebook's Portal - a camera; considering the leakiness of Google, this is probably no bad thing.

It lets you not only hear Google Assistant and your app integrations but also see them and the information you're seeking. Plus, the device supports Google's Voice Match, so up to six people in your home can get their own personalised Mourning Routine.

The Kirin 980 is said to perform up to 20 percent faster while being up to 40 percent more power efficient than its predecessor. While the standard Mate 20 is depicted with a rear fingerprint sensor, the Mate 20 Pro will feature an in-display reader.

MI man's doorstop is $100,000 meteorite
A farmer who'd used a 23-pound rock as a doorstop since 1988 has learned that it's actually a meteorite worth $100,000 (£76,000). As the new owner of the property, the man was told that the rock was a part of the property and that he could have it.

International Monetary Fund cuts global growth forecasts
The IMF expects the USA economy to grow 2.9 per cent this year, the fastest pace since 2005 and unchanged from the July forecast. The IMF had earlier estimated that escalating tit-for-tat tariffs could lower global output by more than 0.8 per cent by 2020.

The first thing you'll notice about Google Home Hub is its attractive design. As part of your home network it is expected that you will monitor and control things like the Nest range of smart home devices, thermostats, security cameras, and lighting products via Home Hub. It can pull up photos and features your best shots with a new feature called Live albums. And, when it's time for bed, it'll dim the screen.

The app also lets you add "home members, ' who will have the ability to control connected devices from outside the local network". With over 200 million compatible devices, this smart screen can be a true control hub, via the screen or your voice. However, Google's upping the ante a bit by adding a bit of home-control interface to the mix via the Home View feature.

I love the Google Home devices, I think they are incredibly useful when you are not sitting by a computer and sometimes even then. A particular strength of the Google Home Hub is its YouTube handling, especially since Google has purposely hobbled the Amazon Echo Show's handing of this app.

GoogleWhen will Google Home Hub be available? The device's surprisingly tiny hardware means it can live nearly anywhere; the reasonable price and the lack of camera will only encourage customers to buy more of them.
