Microsoft puts Windows 10 update on hold after file deletion reports

Doing what they should have done a week ago, before RTM, Microsoft has released a new build of the Windows 10 October 2018 update to Windows 10 Insiders in the Slow Ring and Release Preview Ring.

Shortly after the October 2018 Update became available, users began reporting that the upgrade appeared to be deleting files.

In a blog post, the company says the number of customers impacted by the bug was small, with "reports of data loss" limited to "one one-hundredth of one percent of version 1809 installs". Microsoft says that the majority of modern Wi-Fi printers are compatible with the Mopria standard. "This occurred if Known Folder Redirection (KFR) had been previously enabled, but files remain in the original "old" folder location vs being moved to the new, redirected location". If there are still files in the "Documents" folder then you're not affected by the issue, according to another tweet from Sarkar.

Microsoft added code in the October 2018 update that would make sure these empty duplicate folders were removed.

Microsoft responded on October 4th by pulling the update for further investigation into the bug.
