Nikki Haley resigns as United States Ambassador to the United Nations

Donald Trump has accepted Nikki Haley's resignation as the usa ambassador to the United Nations. CNN speculated Haley's replacement might be First Daughter Ivanka Trump.

In turn, Trump credited Haley with bringing glamour to the U.N. Ambassador's post while lavishly praising her for doing a "fantastic job". He also said the pair had "solved a lot of problems".

Haley, who called herself a "lucky girl", said she was leaving because she needed to take time out after an intense six years as governor of SC - which included a hurricane, a major flood and mass shootings - directly followed by two years at the United Nations.

DW's Washington correspondent, Maya Shwayder, described the resignation as a big loss, saying that Haley was a well-respected diplomat within the administration. Her aggressive and repeated warnings about compiling a list of countries that didn't back the United States irritated even close allies. "But I want to tell you, the people that know, know that Ivanka would be dynamite", Trump said. But she also hinted at her disagreements with the president, saying she had a "personal conversation" with Trump about his response to white supremacist violence in Charlottesville, Virginia previous year. I mean, I wonder why, but it is.

She has been more outspoken in calling out Russian aggression than Trump, for example.

On Monday, the government watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, or CREW, said that Haley had committed ethical violations when she accepted flights from Jimmy Gibbs, Smyth McKissick and Mikee Johnson.

The daughter of immigrants from India, Haley favored free markets and global trade and earned worldwide attention for speaking out against the Confederate battle flag in the aftermath of the 2015 massacre at a black church in Charleston, South Carolina.

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is leaving the administration "at the end of the year".

The news blindsided many congressional Republicans involved in foreign policy matters and some key USA allies.

In April, Haley clashed with White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow over his suggestion she had suffered from "momentary confusion" when she announced that new sanctions against Russian Federation were imminent.

Israel's United Nations ambassador, Danny Danon, in a statement praised the outgoing ambassador: "Thank you, Nikki Haley!".

Nikki Haley is leaving her post as US ambassador to the United Nations with a lengthy list of accomplishments.

"No, I'm not running in 2020" for president, she joked, quickly adding that she would be supporting Trump. But they respect what we do. "It's something that we don't stand for in America".

Mrs Haley was a strident critic of Russian Federation and Syria at the United Nations, and also fiercely critical of what she claimed was the global body's anti-Israel bias.
