UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov secured his first title defense when he defeated former two-division champion Conor McGregor at UFC 229, but what happened directly after was what has the MMA community in a buzz.
Tukhugov is alleged to have jumped into the cage following Nurmagomedov's win and punched McGregor in the back of the head.
Russia's President Vladimir Putin has met with Khabib Nurmagomedov to congratulate him on winning the UFC lightweight title, and defended the fighter's actions in the brawl that followed his victory over Conor McGregor.
"We never give up on our brothers in Russian Federation and I will go to the end for my Brother", Nurmagomedov continued.
"I will ask your father not to punish you too strictly, because you achieved the main task, worthily and convincingly", said Putin.
If one fighter attacking another outside the parameters of a professional fight is cause for a ban, how did McGregor manage to throw a hand truck into a bus full of UFC fighters, injuring some of them, with his teammate and UFC featherweight Artem Lobov along for the ride, and yet no one lost their jobs over it?
