Austin Powers star Verne Troyer's death was a suicide, a coroner in Los Angeles has said.

The L.A. County Coroner's office has ruled Verne Troyer's death as a suicide. According to TMZ, the police were informed that the actor was suicidal before he was hospitalised. The 2-foot-8 MI native had amassed a loyal following after skyrocketing to worldwide fame for his starring role in the "Austin Powers" film franchise, playing Mike Myers's tiny clone sidekick, Mini-Me, in 1999 and 2002.

After being in hospital a year ago and completing a stint in rehab, he spoke of his battle with alcohol and said: "As you know, I've battled alcohol addiction in the past and while it's not always been an easy fight, I'm willing to continue my fight day by day". On film and television sets, commercial shoots, at comic-con's & personal appearances, to his own YouTube videos, he was there to show everyone what he was capable of doing.
