In 2010, Ms Mayorga, 34, reportedly reached an out-of-court settlement with Ronaldo involving a $375,000 (£288,000) payment for agreeing never to go public with the allegations.

Mayorga, 34, claims that she was paid to sign a non-disclosure agreement in 2010 but has now chose to go public with her allegations.

Anything that proves that documents were altered, fabricated or inaccurate also "should be immediately turned over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies", attorneys Leslie Stovall and Larissa Drohobyczer said in a statement emailed to media in the USA and overseas.

Ronaldo has been ruled out of Portugal's games in November, against Poland and Italy, and his next club game for Juventus is on October 20, at home against Genoa. Some sponsors, including Nike and video game maker EA Sports, have expressed concern about the rape allegation. The lawsuit also seeks monetary damages of at least $200,000.

"Cristiano Ronaldo does not deny that he agreed to enter into an settlement, but the reasons that led him to do so are being distorted".

Christiansen provided no evidence to back up his claims about the documents being "fabrications".

Drohobyczer declined, via text message, to provide additional comment. Drohobyczer said previously that Mayorga never wanted her name made public but became anxious that she would be identified after a 2017 media report apparently referred to the encounter at the Palms Hotel and Casino.

Ronaldo, 33, denies assaulting Kathryn Mayorga at a Las Vegas hotel in 2009. The claim of "fabricated" documents was only now raised by Ronaldo's new lawyer, two weeks after publication.

Las Vegas police also reopened a criminal sexual assault investigation at Stovall's request.

The psychiatrist, Norton Roitman, has testified numerous times as an expert witness in state court in Las Vegas.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report. That is nearly certainly a reference to Der Spiegel, the German publication which reported the existence of Ronaldo's settlement in 2017 and published Mayorga's account last month.

Der Spiegel's story in 2017 claims the obtained documents originally came from Football Leaks, a soccer-focused whistle-blower portal.

"Given the breach and the inflammatory accusations, (he) feels compelled to no longer stand silent".

Christiansen wrote: "So that there are no doubts: Cristiano Ronaldo vehemently denies all the accusations in this civil action, in consistency with what he has done in the last nine years".

"By 2015, dozens of entities (including law firms) in different parts of Europe were attacked and their electronic data stolen by a cyber criminal".

He said the hacker then "tried to sell such information" after "significant parts" had been "altered and/or completely forged".

"Ronaldo is forced to break his silence", said the Juventus and Portuguese star's lawyer Peter Christiansen in a statement released through Gestifute, the company which manages the player's affairs.
