Canelo Alvarez (50-1-2, 34 KOs) will have a new boxing home starting December 15, when he challenges Rocky Fielding (27-1, 15 KOs) for the super middleweight crown in Madison Square Garden.
A massive moneymaker when he fought on pay-per-view, Alvarez will be able to be seen for much cheaper through the subscription service that launched in the U.S.in September and now features perhaps the two biggest figures in boxing in Alvarez and heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua. That fight, like most of boxing's biggest, was shown on pay-per-view.
Alvarez, 28, will earn £1m a week if he fights twice a year as contracted in the five-year deal with the Perform-owned online channel.
Alvarez won a high-profile bout against fellow boxing superstar Gennady Golovkin last September.
HBO had the right of first negotiation and a last-look provision for the upcoming fight in NY, but after DAZN threw down its bid, the premium cable channel backed off. Álvarez is a part of Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, and the organization has had a long relationship with HBO.
"Being part of this historic deal will require me to prepare myself even more and offer fans even better performances", he added.
DAZN now have exclusive USA rights to Alvarez's next 11 fights after his contract with American broadcaster HBO - who are leaving boxing - expired.
