Facebook launches Lasso to take on TikTok

Facebook launches TikTok competitor, Lasso

Facebook launches Lasso app similar to TikTok (merged with Musically) like short video lip-syncing app for Android and iOS platform. The app also has a large library of music that you can add to videos, in an attempt to attract TikTok users.

Lasso's features are similar to those of TikTok, another short-video platform. "We're excited about the potential here, and we'll be gathering feedback from people and creators", CNET quoted a Facebook spokesperson as saying in an email on Friday. Only 51 percent of teens said they use Facebook, while a significantly higher percentage said they use other social media platforms such as YouTube, Snapchat, and Instagram. Right now, you can create an account with your Facebook or Instagram, and Lasso also lets you directly post your videos from the app to Facebook Stories, and support for Instagram Stories is expected to arrive later, reports The Verge.

The publication noted that the new program Facebook like the already existing Chinese app TikTok. All we've really seen is a tweet from the app's product manager. The app includes video-editing tools, and helps users add music and text. Facebook told Business Insider that users will be able to choose from millions of songs in its licensed catalog. Interestingly, Facebook had launched its original Snapchat killer - a standalone app called Slingshot - in June of 2014. According to the recent reports it had been recorded that only half of the teens agreed to the fact of being a user of the social media platform - Facebook, as compared to 2004, where nearly 71 percent of them were being a part of it. All Lasso profiles are public.
