That all changed today, though.

Wizards and witches around the world, this is a huge day for the Harry Potter community! So, to say that it's a big deal that magic is showing up (seemingly) at random in the Muggle world would be an understatement. Check out the trailer below via the game's Youtube channel to get a taste of what the new game will bring to your mobile experience. The threat on the Wizarding World is now only known as the Calamity; no doubt players will be roving the streets using their mobile devices as wands to cast spells, fight off fantastic beasts, and discover what the Calamity really is.
The game is set to Apparate onto mobile devices in 2019. What we do know is that the game will be fully rooted in the magical universe of Harry Potter, although it isn't adapted from any of the existing books or films. Niantic had already stated that the game would include famous characters so an appearance from the Golden Trio seems all but confirmed. It's possible then, that Newt Scamander could show up in the game too, possibly as part of a tie-in event.
Harry Potter: Wizards Unite won't be out until 2019, but this latest tease is enough to have me dusting off my Hogwarts robes and making sure my wand has been polished to perfection.
