According to a CBS News report, Stefaniak, from Hallandale, Florida, travelled to Costa Rica for her 36th birthday to meet her sister-in-law.

Officials in Costa Rica, however, said they are still waiting on a fingerprint match from the Federal Bureau of Investigation to officially confirm the identification.

Investigators say a security guard at the complex was detained as of 11 p.m. Monday as part of the homicide investigation.

Family friend, Greg Zwolinsky, who is with them in Costa Rica, said he wants everyone to remember Stefaniak based on the radiance of her personality that is portrayed in pictures of her smiling.

The family of Carla Stefaniak, a USA citizen reported missing while on vacation in Costa Rica, has confirmed that a body found there this week belongs to her.

Martinez was staying in Apartment 7 and Stefaniak was in Apartment 8, where blood was found, Espinoza said.

Carla Stefaniak has been reported missing after she failed to return home from her vacation in Costa Rica.

The last time anyone heard from Stefaniak was the night of November 27, according to April Burton, her sister-in-law. She had a flight the next day (11/28) at 1 pm, but she never showed up. They believe she was kidnapped.

On the eve of her departure, she texted Ms Burton to say it was raining hard and there was a power cut at the property. "May God bless her soul", the Facebook page for Stefaniak stated.

Facebook's reputation as an employer is really suffering
A Facebook employee at the company's Menlo Park headquarters warned Glassdoor visitors not to believe all the negative press. Microsoft-owned LinkedIn , however, is at sixth place with a score of 4.5, read the information on the Glassdoor website.

Carla, visiting Costa Rica since November 22, disappeared between the evening of November 27 and morning of the 28th.

OIJ General Director Walter Espinoza said the security guard, identified as 32-year-old Bismarck Espinosa Martinez of Nicaragua, contradicted his own account to police and became a person of interest in their investigation.

Costa Rican authorities also revealed more about events leading up to Stefaniak's disappearance.

"Everything points to this being her body", Espinoza said.

Investigators told a press conference that what appears to be blood was discovered inside the property in the San Antonio de Escazu neighbourhood.

Authorities are waiting for autopsy results, which could be released Tuesday.

The body was found buried in plastic bags behind the San Jose Airbnb where Stefaniak was vacationing, a rental that the Miami resident had her qualms about.

"'I'm just gonna go ask the guards to buy me a bottle of water.' He says that her phone died, and that's it", Burton said. "We checked her email and she did not take an Uber at 5.10am. She is very active on social media, and for her, on the day of her birthday, to never log in to any of those accounts is just insane".

Both Caicedo and his wife, who had been traveling with Stefaniak, are skeptical she would leave that early because her flight wasn't scheduled until more than eight hours later. Later that night, all communication stopped.
