Tyler Perry Pays Over $430K For Walmart Layaway Gifts In Atlanta

Perry provided gifts to some people in need in the Atlanta area.

Tyler Perry is in the giving spirit this holiday season, as he just dropped $434,000 to pay off shoppers' layaways at Walmart.

For those who don't know, a layaway lets a customer reserve a product at a store and pay for it over time.

The "Madea" creator said he knew people were going through "hard times" and were "struggling" but he said he was "grateful to be able to be in a position to do this".

"If you have a layaway at either place and it was in there as of 9:30 this morning ..."

Amongst the thousands of followers praising Perry for his kindness, the Walmart Twitter page responded to the video by saying: "Anonymous or not, we hope you know that you just made Christmas for so many families. So God bless you, go get your stuff, Merry Christmas!"

In recent weeks, anonymous good Samaritans have paid off all layaway items in four Walmart stores in different parts of the country - a total of more than $130,000. The mystery man who paid off layaways and other purchases in Derby, Vermont told another customer that he was "Santa".

The number of layaways Perry took care of is unknown, but a store manager at the Douglasville location told the AJC that the store typically has over 1,000 layaways during the holidays.
