U.S. Making Plans To Sail Warship Into Black Sea

The rules of the pact say that countries that do not possess a coastline on the Black Sea are needed to offer Turkey atleast 15 days cognizance before altering the straits.

"We encourage you to use all available means to stop the aggression of Russian Federation against Ukraine and its clear violation of worldwide rules, norms by imposing additional energy and financial sanctions", - said Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament, in a letter to the Vice-President of the United States.

The US has begun making the necessary preparations to sail a warship into the Black Sea, a move that comes amid heightened tensions in the region following Russia's seizure of Ukrainian ships and detention of Ukrainian sailors.

Two of the unnamed officials told CNN that the plans weren't set in stone, and that the notification was merely to provide the U.S. Navy with the option of moving a warship into the area.

"We reserve the right to operate freely in accordance with worldwide laws and norms", he said.

Relations between the two countries have been strained since the crisis began in eastern Ukraine in 20-14 and Crimea re-joined Russian Federation following a referendum the same year. Russian jets have been shown regularly confronting, and shadowing, the surveillance planes.

The last U.S. ship to enter the Black Sea was the fast transport ship USNS Carson City in October.
