Federal Judge in Texas Strikes Down Affordable Care Act

For Residents living in 39 states, open enrollment through healthcare.gov will end at 11:59pm, local time.

Established under the ACA in 2013, the Health Insurance Marketplace is an aggregation of plans where a person not insured by other means, such as an employer, Medicaid or the Veterans Administration, can purchase private insurance.

The ruling determined the individual coverage mandate is unconstitutional. But with appeals certain, even the Trump White House said the law will remain in place for now.

"We've had a lot of green card holders coming in because they think they might be affected", said Kori Hattemer of Foundation Communities, a nonprofit organization in Austin, Texas, that helps enroll people for coverage.

NO PENALTY FOR BEING UNINSURED The GOP-led Congress repealed the fine for being uninsured, effective this January 1.

Enrollment, which opened on November 1, has reportedly been slow this year, but last year numbers surged just before the deadline.
