Two suspects were arrested in the shooting death of 7-year-old Texas girl Jazmine Barnes, and officials said the men fired at the auto by mistake.

This is the man witnesses say murdered 7-year-old Jazmine Barnes on 12/30 as her family drove on the E. Sam Houston Pkwy frontage road at Wallisville Road.

Jazmine was fatally shot in Houston on December 30 after authorities said a suspect pulled alongside the vehicle the girl was riding in and opened fire. Investigators are still trying to verify information related to the second person, Gonzalez said, but he declined to say whether anyone was in police custody, citing the pending investigation.

Officials said investigators are also looking into the possibility that others could be charged in the case.

Authorities in Harris County described the suspect's vehicle as a four-door pickup. On Saturday, hundreds gathered at a rally near where the shooting happened, holding balloons, stuffed animals and signs that read, "Justice for Jazmine". Prosecutors said he was driving the vehicle that pulled alongside the Barnes family auto and that someone else shot into the auto.

Before Black's arrest, police released a sketch of the suspect, which included descriptions from Jazmine's mother and three sisters. Her mother was also shot in the arm.

Following Black's arrest, the sheriff's office said he had admitted to taking part in the shooting.

"The source said the suspects thought the complainant's vehicle was some other person's vehicle that they had seen earlier in the night and that they shot the auto by mistake", according to the complaint.

Gonzalez said investigators don't believe "in any way" that family members were involved in anything "nefarious".

Critics Say National Parks Facing Political Pressure To Keep Open During Shutdown
Visitors that do march into the park will find closed bathrooms and no trash collection. But with no workers on duty to pump out the waste, those are being closed now as well.

Many, including Merritt, speculated that the crime was racially motivated based on early witness accounts of the suspect - who was described by authorities as a "thin white man" in his 30s or 40s.

During Sunday's hearing, prosecutors said Jazmine's mother, LaPorsha Washington, had tried to drive to a hospital after the shooting, but one of her front tires had been shot out.

Prosecutors and a lawyer for Jazmine's family, S. Lee Merritt, named the second suspect as Larry Woodruffe, 24, who is also black and was at the Harris County jail on Sunday on a drug possession charge.

But Black is 20 years old and African-American.

The event, a fundraiser for the family, had another objective that organizers say is even more important: Keeping Jazmine's death on people's minds.

While it may be hard to understand the discrepancy, "it is imaginable that witnesses confused a fleeing bystander for the actual shooter", Merritt tweeted.

She said Jazmine would have celebrated her birthday next month. "I can get up in the morning".

The HCSO announced a press conference on the case to take place Sunday at 2:oo p.m. CT/3:00 p.m. ET. Her funeral is at noon.

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee said, "I think it is important to again emphasize to the faith community that we must continue to pray and embrace this family".
