The friendship between Hogan and Okerlund spanned decades while working together through AWA, WWE and WCW.

Four years ago, Hogan was sacked from his contract as a WWE ambassador in 2015 for racist remarks caught on a leaked sex tape.

In the past 12 months, Hogan has publicly apologized and also addressed the WWE locker room. But in the summer of 2018, Hogan was reinstated, and the next move on his retribution tour would be a physical appearance at a WWE show.

Okerlund stayed with WCW until 2001, when he returned to the WWE in a variety of different capacities.

Hulk Hogan has been seen on RAW in years and only appeared at the WWE Crown Jewel event. Growing up like you guys said in the mid-80s I was in high school and college watching him do his thing and I would imitate Mean Gene with any microphone I could find.

A few days later, WWE announced that Hogan would make his return to be the master of ceremonies for "Mean" Gene's televised send-off.
