New Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe unveiled, expected in India in 2019-20

The cabin which debuted with the all-new A-Class a year ago has replaced the older setup here. There will be more engine options, both petrol and diesel, with dual-clutch transmissions and 4MATIC all-wheel drive available at the time of launch.

The CLA is fitted with a decoupled multi-link rear suspension system, and adaptive damping is optional. As for wheels, the available range starts from standard fit 16-inch units right up to 19-inch models.

The new CLA's body is almost 2 inches wider and longer than its predecessor, though the rear-seat leg room is almost identical to the outgoing model, which was already cramped. Mercedes said this, along with the car's lower centre of gravity, helps to ensure it has improved driving dynamics. Expect high-performance AMG CLA 35 and CLA 45 models to come later. Also, the narrower tail lamps give it a wider stance from the rear and an added sense of elegance.

Technologically advanced, the MBUX Interior Assist-function of the new auto now recognises control commands through movements, uses augmented reality for navigation and introduces the Energizing Coach-function providing individual fitness recommendations, and, of course, integrates all other modern technologies offered by the brand. Legroom, however, is broadly similar to the previous model's and the boot has shrunk by 10 litres to 460 litres.

In its design, the new CLA has echoes of the A-class and other recent new Mercedes but gets an elongated bonnet featuring a sharply raked nose, uniquely designed flat headlights and a prominent "powerdome" on the bonnet.

The only model mentioned by Mercedes-Benz in their press release was the mid-range CLA 250.

Australia charges man over suspicious foreign mission parcels
An official from the Greek consulate told SBS Greek radio they first became suspicious due to the lack of return address. Authorities are yet to confirm what was in the parcels, but early reports suggested they appeared to contain asbestos.

New for the CLA is what Mercedes-Benz calls the Interior Assistant, which is best described as a gesture control system, allowing the driver to turn on various systems with a simple motion of the hand. Gesturing towards the rear-view mirror can also control the reading light.

Low height matched with a wide, planted stance are necessary for a coupe presence and dimensions of the all-new CLA-Class don't disappoint.

In Europe, Mercedes sold 933,697 passenger cars, 2.3% fewer than in 2017. A Shooting Brake estate is due to follow later this year.

Beyond that, Mercedes-AMG is also expected to reveal the CLA45 and CLA45 S at the Geneva motor show in March.

Starting from the looks, the new CLA gets the similar coupe-like silhouette and with the increased length of the vehicle, it looks like a mini version of the CLS Coupe.
